Wollongong Homeless Hub and Housing Services has changed our approach from a drop-in service centre to mobile outreach service delivery. We go into the community where we are most needed. We listened to our clients and community members and now service those most in need where they are, rather than requiring clients to travel to a central location.
We are regularly onsite at community and neighbourhood centres across the Illawarra and at the One Place Coniston through our mobile outreach service delivery approach. Our mobile outreach service provides community engagement and services delivery in a collaborative and client focused way to support individuals and families in need.
Regardless of the setting, our support staff can assist clients with all aspects of housing support, including accessing temporary accommodation, seeking in the private rental market and referrals to the Tenants Advice and legal services. In addition, our staff provide referrals to a broad range of community services such as physical and mental health services, youth services, financial counselling, welfare agencies and general legal service.
Staff in our mobile outreach service also provide assistance to any individual within the wider community with an existing tenancy who may be experiencing difficulties. Support staff are able to provide advice and referrals to programs and services which can assist clients to sustain their accommodation.
All members of our team can also make available emergency food support, clothes, toiletries and basic material aid to clients.
